Toradol

Cost: $25

IV Toradol is a prescription, non-opioid anti-inflammatory medication (ketorolac) used for short-term relief of moderate to severe pain. Delivered by IV, it’s a popular option for migraines, muscle and joint pain, post-procedure soreness, dental pain, and menstrual cramps—especially when you want effective relief without opioids.

How IV Toradol Works

Toradol is an NSAID that blocks cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, reducing prostaglandins—the chemicals that trigger pain, inflammation, and fever. By dialing down these signals, IV Toradol can ease pain within 15–30 minutes, with effects that commonly last 4–6 hours (varies by person).

Benefits At A Glance

  • Rapid relief for acute pain (often within minutes)
  • Non-sedating & non-opioid option
  • Targets inflammation at the source
  • Can be paired with IV hydration or anti-nausea support when appropriate

What To Expect

Your clinician will review your history and medications, then administer a single, carefully measured IV dose over a few minutes. Most clients relax in a comfortable chair; many feel pain relief before the visit ends. You’ll receive guidance on what to avoid afterward (e.g., additional NSAIDs) and when to follow up.

Safety, Screening & Who Should Avoid It

For your safety, IV Toradol is used short-term only (therapy is typically limited to a maximum of 5 days total across all forms). It’s not appropriate for everyone. You should not receive Toradol if you have or are any of the following:

  • Allergy to ketorolac, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
  • Active stomach/intestinal ulcers or bleeding, history of GI bleed from NSAIDs
  • Kidney disease or risk of kidney injury (including significant dehydration)
  • Bleeding disorders, are on blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), or soon after major surgery (especially CABG)
  • Late pregnancy (3rd trimester) or planning pregnancy; discuss if breastfeeding
  • Uncontrolled hypertension or certain heart risks (your provider will screen)

Important: Do not combine Toradol with other NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin used for pain) or duplicate doses. Always tell your provider about all medications and supplements.

Possible Side Effects

Most are mild and temporary:

  • Upset stomach, heartburn, nausea, dizziness, or headache
  • Bruising or irritation at the IV site

Seek medical care urgently if you notice black/tarry stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling, or a severe rash.
